For the Mom Who Has Everything

For the Mom Who Has Everything

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13! Mom is the person who nurtured and guided, providing support and advice (sometimes unsolicited). She is a role model and an inspiration.

How do you show the most important woman in your life how much you appreciate her? What kind of gift would hold lasting value?

I have two grown children and have gotten many gifts over the years: I’ve gotten candy and chocolates – but now I’m on a perpetual diet! I’ve gotten flowers – but they fade and die away. I’ve gotten cards and they get stored in a box.

The Mother’s Day presents I cherish the most are plates my kids created in 1988 and 1990, when they were each 6 years old. Yes, these are plastic plates. Yes, these plates have faded due to countless cycles in the dishwasher. But they are persistent reminders of my kids when they were in Kindergarten. I love eating off these plates!

There is nothing like pictures and memorabilia to make lasting, meaningful gifts. With today’s technology, old photos, slides and negatives could be scanned and enhanced to look like new. They could then be used to create photo books, to put in frames to hang on the wall, or to create a library for a digital photo frame that cycles through the collection.

For the Do It Yourselfers, there are numerous online sites where these gifts could be created. These include Shutterfly (www.Shutterfly.com), Picaboo (www.Picaboo.com), Pinhole Press (www.PinholePress.com), to name just a few.

All the online sites require that digital photos be uploaded, so they could be used in the end product. Photos taken with today’s cameras and cell phones are already digital, so uploading them is not a problem. If you have prints, they should be digitized by having them scanned on photo scanners – as opposed to all-in-one printer/scanners.

If you’re looking for help with any phase of this project, or would prefer to turn over the entire project to someone else, I would be happy to help!
