Maximize the Return on Your Investment

A resolution that would yield a huge return on your investment of photo organizing for years and generations to come is digitizing your photo collection.

Digitizing the photos makes them accessible to friends and family.  You could uploaded the images to a shared cloud service to make it easy for everyone to view the photos.  Pictures capture the precious moments of life such as weddings, births, birthdays, vacations, and just hanging around the house with friends and family.

Is digitizing photographs really an investment – you might ask.  The answer is a definite Yes!  It will cost money, time and possibly emotional capital, as you look through snapshots of times gone by.

Should you go through your pictures or hand them all to a Photo Organizer?  What are the trade-offs?  If you take the time to curate the pictures, it may cause you to relive those time as you wander down memory lane remembering people and events.  If you don’t have the time or the inclination to go through the pictures, it would cost you more money for the Photo Organizer to scan all your pictures and memorabilia.

Which is the best approach?  The approach that works for you, but still gets the pictures digitized.  I’ve had clients who submitted many large crates of photos and albums and didn’t care how much it cost.  I’ve had clients who diligently, meticulously and ruthlessly curated their pictures.  These clients ended up with cohesive image collections recounting the highlights and memorable moments of their lives or the lives of their relatives.

Sadly, I’ve also been contacted by potential clients who wanted to get their photos organized, but never seemed to find the time to do it.  Or, perhaps, they got lost in the weeds and the rabbit-holes of memories.  Maybe they could not part with any of the pictures or think of any way to organize them.  But, yet, they’re not willing to turn over the entire collection to the Photo Organizer.

As we move to a more digitized world, the best way to preserve memories is to digitize your photographs, slides, photo albums and scrapbooks.  You can cull and curate the pictures yourself, or you can submit the entire collection to a Photo Organizer.  If you have a budget, you could prioritize the digitization or spread it out over time.

Pictures are so personal.  There is no right or wrong approach.  The only sad result is for the memories, people and events to not get passed forward because of inaction.
